A good auto insurance policy is a vital part of owning a car, every bit as important as a well-tuned engine or a fresh set of tires. You get more out of your driving experience when you are protected by an affordable, effective insurance plan. This article will give you a few tips for getting more out of your car insurance dollar.

Do research on every car insurance company you are interested in before signing the dotted line. While the company may advertise well and offer deals on TV, you must always check to make sure the same options are available in your area. If you do not know the ins and outs of their policies, you could be stuck with fees and policies that do not fit your needs.

Make sure that you do some comparison-shopping before you commit to an auto insurance company. Different companies use different calculations to estimate your rates. Some will give more weight to certain personal factors than others, and shopping a gamut of insurance companies is the only way to ensure getting the best deal.

Being a careful driver can really save you money on insurance. Obviously, insurers would rather insure good drivers and will provide lower rates for good drivers, but did you know that causing an accident can make your insurance rates nearly double? It is abundantly clear that driving safely is one of the best ways to keep your insurance rates low!

Many insurance companies have discounts for cars that have extra anti-theft or security features. If your car has some of these features, like anti-lock brakes, you should ask your insurance company and see if there are any discounts available. Also, you can get discounts if you took a defensive driving class or if you are a student with good grades.

Even if you prefer to work with an agent, consider purchasing a new auto insurance policy online. Many carriers offer discounts for policies purchased online because of the lower overhead costs. However, you can still work with an agent for any questions or policy change during the life of the policy.

Many auto insurance policies come with an optional roadside assistance program. Consider cutting this program from your policy if you have never used it. Roadside assistance seems like a modest expenditure for a safety feature. You should evaluate your roadside assistance fees by totaling them up annually or per-use to get a better feel for the true cost of the program.

If you have a car that is considered to be a classic or special model, you may want to consider joining an auto club that is related to your vehicle. Many auto clubs offer insurance discounts that could end up saving you thousands of dollars a year, while also having reliable and trustworthy car insurance.

In order to protect yourself and your car with the lowest insurance rates must understand the difference between the types of liabilities and which policies cover them. This is because there are major differences between coverage for basic bodily injuries, damage to the car, and in the worst case, major medical problems to you or the other driver. If you aren't properly covered in these cases it could be a major problem.

When you take the time to learn about good auto insurance, your efforts will reap great rewards. Perhaps these tips will save you some money. Maybe they will improve the coverage you get. Getting a better deal on car insurance makes you a safer driver: You drive with confidence when you know your insurance payments are giving you the most bang for your buck.
